I experienced similar problems with mysql -- that is: 1 -- php couldn't find them ysql moldule despite the facct that phpo4-mysq2l was installed. The fix suggested by the OP worked for me too.
2) I simply can't get wordpress to open the database. I ran setup-mysql several times unsuccessfully, and tried changing $NAME and $DB_PASSWD just in case I'd screwed things up in earlier runs. The script can create the databases but of course no tables show up. Then when I visit the URL (set up as per apache.conf) I get the "Error establishing a database connection" message. I've verified that the new user can in fact log in to mysql from localhost and has the power to creaete tables. Not sure where the problem lies, would greatly appreciate some help... matt Package: wordpress Version: 1.5.1.2-1 Followup-For: Bug #312721 -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.23-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US Versions of packages wordpress depends on: ii apache [httpd] 1.3.33-1 Versatile, high-performance HTTP s ii apache-perl [httpd] 1.3.33-1 Versatile, high-performance HTTP s ii apache-ssl [httpd] 1.3.33-1 Versatile, high-performance HTTP s ii mysql-server-4.1 [virtual-my 4.1.7-4 mysql database server binaries ii mzscheme [httpd] 1:209-5 PLT Scheme Interpreter ii php4 4:4.3.9-1 server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii php4-mysql 4:4.3.10-15 MySQL module for php4 -- no debconf information -------------------------- .''`.
