Well using m-a clean nvidia-kernel, does the same thing.  So to some
extent it is just user error, although I think it is a bug that m-a is
willing to extract a tar file on top of an existing directory given the
trouble ti can cause.

So perhaps a wishlist bug against m-a to make it remove the existing
dir before extracting a new one would be rather nice.
