How odd. I thought that #452047 had solved this once and for all. mpicc.openmpi already passes -L/usr/lib/openmpi/lib, so I wonder if there's an ordering problem where that's only checked after /usr/lib in the current setup - maybe a bug in the upstream Makefiles? I'll crank up the debugging level and see if anything looks suspicious. I saw your post on d-release about the OpenMPI 1.3.2 transition. Did the release team ever follow up?
