I have the same problem, it started today after an upgrade. When I try to open an existing spreadsheet I get this in the output:
** (gnumeric:8045): CRITICAL **: scg_edit_start: assertion `IS_SHEET_CONTROL_GUI (scg)' failed ** (gnumeric:8045): CRITICAL **: wbcg_edit_finish: assertion `IS_SHEET (wbcg->editing_sheet)' failed ** (gnumeric:8045): CRITICAL **: wbcg_edit_finish: assertion `IS_SHEET (wbcg->editing_sheet)' failed and Gnumeric won't let me edit or copy anything in the sheet. Creating new sheets and editing them works fine. --ll
