Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.24.3-1+b1 Severity: important
I am totally frustrated because gnome-panel do not obey me. It just frets and fumes like a brat. It is not at all possible to create panels to more than two places: To top and to left. If I go to settings of some vertical panel and try to make it so that it goes to right side of the desktop, that settings goes back to left. Correspondingly, if I go to settings of horizontal panel and try set it so that it goes to bottom of my screen, that settings just goes back "top". Well, I tried to remove all panels. I even deleted all my directories whose name starts ".gnome" and logged in to new gnome-session. Panels still have old settings. If there is some way to completely wipe out all settings of panels, I'd like to know about it. I tried to find something from directories .gconf and .config and in vain. I just removed other panels but the last refused to go away. Therefore I created a new one and after I was able to remove that old panel. I added some applets to new panel and after that it looked like this: http://iki.fi/juhtolv/tmp/bugreports/gnome-panel/02/new_panel_before_logout.png After first logout I logged back in and it looked like this: http://iki.fi/juhtolv/tmp/bugreports/gnome-panel/02/new_panel_after_the_first_logout.png I tweaked it so that it is not spread from lefti side to right side: http://iki.fi/juhtolv/tmp/bugreports/gnome-panel/02/new_panel_after_tweaking_logout.png Then I logged out and then back. It looked like this: http://iki.fi/juhtolv/tmp/bugreports/gnome-panel/02/new_panel_after_second_logout.png Whaaasaat! Once again it is in the top of desktop! -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (101, 'testing'), (99, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fi_FI.utf8, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnome-panel depends on: ii gnome-about 2.26.1-1 The GNOME about box ii gnome-control-center 1:2.24.0.1-5 utilities to configure the GNOME d ii gnome-desktop-data 2.26.1-1 Common files for GNOME 2 desktop a ii gnome-menus 2.24.2-2 an implementation of the freedeskt ii gnome-panel-data 2.24.3-1 common files for the GNOME Panel ii libatk1.0-0 1.26.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.24.1-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.24.1-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.8.6-2+b1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.80-4 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libecal1.2-7 2.26.1.1-2 Client library for evolution calen ii libedataserver1.2-11 2.26.1.1-2 Utility library for evolution data ii libedataserverui1.2-8 2.26.1.1-2 GUI utility library for evolution ii libgconf2-4 2.26.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.4-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.1-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2-11 2.26.1-1 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-menu2 2.24.2-2 an implementation of the freedeskt ii libgnome2-0 2.26.0-1 The GNOME library - runtime files ii libgnomeui-0 2.24.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.1-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgweather1 2.26.1-1 GWeather shared library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.17-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-applet2-0 2.20.3-5 library for GNOME Panel applets ii libpango1.0-0 1.24.0-3+b1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpolkit-dbus2 0.9-2 library for accessing PolicyKit vi ii libpolkit2 0.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit ii librsvg2-2 2.22.3-2 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libwnck22 2.24.2-2 Window Navigator Construction Kit ii libx11-6 2:1.2.1-1 X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.4-2 X11 authorisation library ii menu-xdg 0.4 freedesktop.org menu compliant win Versions of packages gnome-panel recommends: ii alacarte 0.11.10-1 easy GNOME menu editing tool ii evolution-data-server 2.26.1.1-2 evolution database backend server ii gnome-applets 2.24.3.1-2+b1 Various applets for GNOME 2 panel ii gnome-icon-theme 2.24.0-4 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii gnome-session 2.22.3-3 The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii gvfs 1.2.2-2 userspace virtual filesystem - ser ii policykit-gnome 0.9.2-2 GNOME dialogs for PolicyKit Versions of packages gnome-panel suggests: ii epiphany-browser 2.26.1-1 Intuitive web browser - dummy pack ii eterm [x-terminal-em 0.9.5-2 Enlightened Terminal Emulator ii evolution 2.26.1.1-2 groupware suite with mail client a ii gdm 2.20.9-1 GNOME Display Manager ii gnome-session 2.22.3-3 The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii gnome-system-tools 2.22.1-2 Cross-platform configuration utili ii gnome-terminal [x-te 2.24.3-3 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl ii gnome-user-guide [gn 2.24.2-2 GNOME user's guide ii konsole [x-terminal- 4:4.2.2-1 X terminal emulator for KDE 4 ii lxterminal [x-termin 0.1.4+svn20090316-1 desktop independent vte-based term ii mlterm [x-terminal-e 2.9.4-6 MultiLingual TERMinal ii nautilus 2.26.2-3 file manager and graphical shell f ii rxvt-unicode-ml [x-t 9.06-1 multi-lingual terminal emulator wi ii terminal.app [x-term 0.9.4+cvs20051125-5 Terminal Emulator for GNUstep ii xfce4-terminal [x-te 0.2.12-1 Xfce terminal emulator ii xterm [x-terminal-em 242-1 X terminal emulator ii yelp 2.24.0-2 Help browser for GNOME 2 -- no debconf information -- Juhapekka "naula" Tolvanen * http colon slash slash iki dot fi slash juhtolv "ore wo mitsumeteiru anata sama wa ossharu bakari. kesshite dakiyosete wa kurenai ooki na anata no te. ore no tanjoubi ni wa ai wo kai ataeru. kyou wa kumori nochi ame."
