Perhaps just check the architecture once and cache it for the rest of
the session, else for use who don't have GCC installed, we get a ton of
messages:

P.S., ttf-bitstream-vera is now an unavailable package...
P.S., README should also mention updating procedures: does it somehow
update itself? How do we know when to run what to do what to update,
etc.

UPGRADING:
Google Earth's installer will automatically reinstall/upgrade when a user
runs the installer a second time. All you need to do is download a newer
version and run its installer to upgrade.
UNINSTALLING:
Run the "uninstall" script as the user that installed the program, which
will be in the directory where you installed previously. Alternately,
delete the installed copy and also $HOME/.loki/installed/googleearth.xml
P.S., mention in the README that if you better use
$ LANG=C googleearth
if you want to run it in English and not the local language with
possibly missing fonts, etc.
