I wrote a lengthy text there. http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.fastcgi.devel/2613 Recent upstream thread providing a different patch and mentioning a commit as well as a snapshot version containing said change. So there is some information as to what went wrong, and there are several patches to fix it, one of them even incorporated upstream. I've also written to the fastcgi-developers mailing list, mentioning the references quoted above (and this Debian bug report here) and asking when a release containing the fix is to be expected.
