Both seem to work mostly fine for me now: the PDF from the page above
opens in evince, .torrent files open in transmission, etc.

I still have a problem with opening a statement PDF from within a
banking site though: with epi-gecko this downloads and opens a pdf, with
epi-webkit this downloads some seemingly unrelated .html page, maybe the
start page, and I'm suddenly logged out from the banking site. This
might be completely unrelated to the above though, like a problem with
the request, so feel free to ignore that. If you have any pointers on
how to debug this further, please let me know (is there an environment
variable that makes epiphany output a debug log of some sort, or dump
the communication? Wireshark'ing https does not work so well, and I
haven't found a public site to reproduce this problem with yet)

Cheers
 -Tim
