Package: libdvdread-dev
Version: 4.1.3-5
Severity: important

        Hi !

I am trying to compile a package against dvdread. However, the configure script
of this package requires the symbol DVDREAD_VERSION to be greater than 905
(i.e. upstream version 0.9.5).

In your package, which is versioned 4.1.3, this symbol, however, is declared as:
#define DVDREAD_VERSION 904
(file dvdread/dvd_reader.h)

If I go to the upstream's website and download version 0.9.7 there, then the
symbol
is 907.

If I understand what I gathered on the internet, the version you package is in
fact
a mplayer-specific fork of the original library and its version has been
renamed while
the shipped symbol version remained the same.

However, I cannot find any information about this in your package, like a
README.Debian-source
file.

Furthermore, it would be nice to clarify the status of this fork. If it is
really
a fork, then it should be packaged under a seperate name in order to avoid
confusion
and also to allow the packaging of software that depends on the original
library.

Thanks,

Romain
