Grrh, you are right, I hadn't noticed this. I have removed the dependency on libgpod2, python-gpod will pull libgpodX in the future which will avoid such issues. As for your problem, does it work correctly with other music players? Has it worked with previous listen releases? I do not have this issue using an iPod mini video.
