?? ddclient still asks for the interval between updates. The default is at 
300 secs, but you can just enter another value at the prompt.

Somehow the daemon_interval was not seen (not shown to you). I guess you had
the debconf/priority setting above medium, in which case the question about
the timeout is skipped.

Please try running (as root):
        
        dpkg-reconfigure -plow ddclient
