Package: kernel-package Version: 12.014 Severity: minor (Please forgive me if I say anything stupid -- I'm just a dumb user who's not quite familiar with the inner workings of kernel building or make-kpkg.)
The make-kpkg(1) manpage comes with a rather long disclaimer following the --append-to-version option, about version.h and the need to run make clean. Is this section still valid? I ask because its description of what happens doesn't match my own experience; making clean does not adjust include/linux/version.h, but deletes it entirely. In fact, whatever I append never ends up there, but in include/linux/utsrelease.h instead. It kinda sucks having to make clean when packaging two kernels that differ only by a patch or a commit. In fact, last time I bisected a bug, I foolishly ignored these instructions, and everything seemed to work out fine.
