Oh, if you are running Lenny there are several ways you can test out the
Snort experimental packages:

- build it yourself for Lenny (use the Debian package sources). Unfortunately
  backports.org does not provide a 2.8.4.1 release there (or the 2.7.0-26
  packages available in Sid for that matter)

- create a Sid chroot using debootstrap and then install+run Snort within the
  chroot.

It probably is not necessary but even if I moved the 2.8.4.1-1 release to
Debian 'unstable' you would still not benefit to it until squeeze becomes a
Debian Stable release and you upgrade your production system. So, if you want
to have a stable installation of Snort you will need to take either one of
the approaches I listed above.

If I had more time available I could backport the 2.8.4.1-1 package and
provide it at backports.org but this is not something I can commit for at the
moment.
