Oh, if you are running Lenny there are several ways you can test out the Snort experimental packages: - build it yourself for Lenny (use the Debian package sources). Unfortunately backports.org does not provide a 2.8.4.1 release there (or the 2.7.0-26 packages available in Sid for that matter) - create a Sid chroot using debootstrap and then install+run Snort within the chroot. > Sooooo, in the context of Ryan's comment is it really necessary to test > out 2.8.4.1-1, and if so, is there a "reasonable" backout procedure? It probably is not necessary but even if I moved the 2.8.4.1-1 release to Debian 'unstable' you would still not benefit to it until squeeze becomes a Debian Stable release and you upgrade your production system. So, if you want to have a stable installation of Snort you will need to take either one of the approaches I listed above. If I had more time available I could backport the 2.8.4.1-1 package and provide it at backports.org but this is not something I can commit for at the moment. Regards Javier
