I would look at some real .desktop files installed by other packages as
working examples (such as xpdf.desktop, evince.desktop, and so
forth...).
However, I can well understand your need to check the specification, in
order to be sure you put the right values for the right fields.
I hope you manage to do this soon, in order to build a good gv.desktop
and include it into the package...
