looks like the not-yet-packaged new version 0.6.00 adds features
along those lines: the release notes say
Checkpoint/Restart capability added. Checkpoint is done
at every volume written and Restart is done at start of
the next volume in the set.
as far as i can see from a brief check of the code in question
a 'restart' in duplicity terms is exactly what you are looking for.
