inspired by https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122249 I added the following line to ~/.aptitude/config aptitude::UI::Default-Grouping "task,status,pattern(~O~A=>\1 - \2),section(subdir,passthrough),section(topdir)"; It looks like using ~o in the default grouping breaks display of obsolete packages in all of aptitude. The GUI will henceforth claim that there are no locally created or obsolete packages installed. "aptitude search ~o" will list them fine, though.
