To be able to look at the VMs, you first need to connect to the hypervisor. In
this case, kvm.
For a local machine, the URI would be qemu:///system
For a remote machine, it'd depend on what mechanism you are using.
For example, for ssh, it'd be:
qemu+ssh://u...@hostname/system

My point when reporting this was simply that virt-manager is supposed to
warn the user about his/her insufficient privileges.
