For me, I did XML -> XML conversion with simple XSLT to make these contents as DUMMY. Then I run po4a-gettextize to make pot files! I do not use po4a-update but use msgmerge directly to save time for 2nd translation. For XML, making second XML file seems more flexible solution for now. I find po4a-gettextize and po4a-translate to be CPU hog and slowest process when handling XML source of 1.5MB. Considering this situation, making more feature is fine for po4a-gettextize and po4a-translate as long as it does not slow things.
