If you could do the update to the current version and notify me (via mail or on irc as "mvo" on irc.freenode.net) then I can review/upload this new version to debian. It great that you plan to work on this, having a new version in debian is ertainly good (especially since the latest gdebi comes with some nice improvements like the ability to display the file and control files content.
