Package: amarok Version: 2.1.1-4 Severity: normal I have some songs in mp3 format in collection with artist/song/album names that contain non-ascii characters. Those mp3 files contain id3v2 tags. Amarok displays some of them just fine. But for some files it displays question marks. See attached output of amarokcollectionscanner. Artist name for all songs is the same: 黒木メイサ. For most of the song artist field in xml file is correct. But for some it is given as '?????'.
I traced this to automatic charset detection in collectionscanner. I added debug print in CollectionScanner::readTags() from CollectionScanner.cpp for variable 'encoding'. The result was empty string for all songs with correct artist name in xml file and windows-1252 in other cases (for some other files in my collection encoding was displayed as Big5 or iso-something, also incorrect). After removing this detection from collectionscanner amarok displays everything correctly.
