I use the qemu-arm-static 0.11.0~rc1 package from here: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/q/qemu-kvm/ under Debian sid and it seems to work fine. I used the binary i386 package and did not compile myself, ouch :~)
