What about reading the last message in the history? dpkg's install-info is going away in 1.15.4 and all install-info bugs will be closed/reassigned to the new install-info package that is provided by GNU texinfo. The underlying bugs are already fixed since the dir file is already generated by GNU's install-info and only the removal of dpkg's install-info is pending an upload (in a few days).
