Sorry for the long delay, but we had to find a suitable timeframe to update the client and watch the situation for a few days after the update.
I have installed 1.4.11+dfsg-1~bpo50+1 from backports.org and the problem has disappeared. So I guess we'll now have to wait until the fix reaches lenny or will we have to wait for the next Debian release?
