I agree that there should probably be a debconf questions that asks if the /etc/inittab line should be inserted. I'm of the opinion that *all* daemons should have such a question to ask if they should be started on installation. There are many instances when one would want to install a package that includes a daemon but not want to have the daemon automatically started.
Anyway, it's not a tragic issue, but there are many instances when this package is desired for some of the other binaries it contains (such as chpst) and the daemon is not needed or desired at all, especially running on start up. jamie.
