Bug#541177: Git download update

As the sourceforge.net git repository doesn't contain tags I've created branches for the commits and modified the build system to handle git branches as well as tags. 

To review the problem you can (finally)

   git-clone git://v3c.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/v3c/v3c/
   cd v3c
   make git branch=1.0.3 check
