  That is not mine to decide at any rate, and this clearly isn't an
option, as it is not necessary for many users.

  I'm very confused about this part: pmount does not mount anything
unless you explicitly ask it to do so on the command line. So whatever
is mounting your devices automatically is not pmount. It might be using
it, though.

  I'm afraid that the problem you report is probably targeted at some
other package, though I have no idea which one.
