Hi Martin,

Sorry, I wrote this bug report in a fit of pique, and the machine in question no longer exists in the state in which it was so I can't test anything. Please close this report, and I'll try to exercise more self control before filing other bug reports.

                                       Regards and apologies, Faheem.

Hello Faheem,

I just wiped off everything postgresql related from this machine

Hm, perhaps you forgot /etc/postgresql/8.3? Can you please check if
you still have that, and what its contents is?

reinstalled pg 8.4 from lenny backports from scratch, but it still
configured to listen at port 5433. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

This is usually if there is already an 8.3 cluster configured in
/etc/postgresql/8.3/something/. Can you please check the output of
"pg_lsclusters" and copy&paste it here if you have doubts?

Thanks,

Martin
