Is it enough for the dependency on makedev to be changed to "udev | makedev"?
Otherwise the priority has to be changed, I don't know whether the ftp
maintainers have to modify things for that to happen.

That's interesting, how can this make makedev un-uninstallable? If the
package needs makedev, then makedev obviously needs to exist; vice
versa, if makedev is removed, this package also is removed...
