According to the build log

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=gnumeric&ver=1.9.12-2&arch=alpha&stamp=1253043703&file=log
on alpha, gnumeric 1.9.12-2 was built using libxml2-dev_2.7.4.dfsg-1 which
had changes with regard to symbol versioning, but which did not specify
tighter runtime dependencies. This has been fixed in libxml2 2.7.4.dfsg-2
and future builds of gnumeric will have tighter libxml2 runtime dependencies
accordingly, which should prevent this warning going forward.
