when installing "notify-osd" to replace the standard notification-daemon for notifications, this version of pidgin-libnotify does not use notify-osd for popup messages but displays an ugly dialog window right in the center of the screen. notify-osd was adapted from Ubuntu where it works very well with pidgin-libnotify. The reason why it doesn't work on Debian is that pidgin-libnotify sends interactive messages to notify-osd which supports non-interactive messages only. The effect is that notify-osd ignores the notification and thus pidgin-libnotify displays it's own annoying popup window right in the center of the screen. I suggest adopting the patched version of pidgin-libnotify to solve this. I am not sure, however, whether everybody would agree because some people seem to prefer to be able to interact with the notifications. In any way, one should fine a solution for this.
