Client-side programs like aolserver4-nspostgres aren't compiled
against a specific postgresql version but a specific libpq API. The
current API provided by libpq4 can connect to PostgreSQL databases
from 7.3 to 8.0. So if aolserver4-nspostgres cannot connect to 7.4
databases, this is a bug in aolserver4-nspostgres, not in libpq. I'm
reassigning this back for now.

Of course not, both 7.4 and 8.0 are fully supported.

You can compile version specific server extensions with
postgresql-server-dev-7.4. Client apps don't need to be version
specific, as explained above.

Thanks,
