it's a 16 GByte USBStick, first partition formatted in FAT32 - Size 4,5 GB (I have also tried to format in FAT16 - same result), the mainboard is an Asus P5B Premium (newest BIOS update).

mounted in /mnt/usb

unetbootin doesn't add syslinux kernel and other syslinux files to the usb stick so the usb stick doesn't boot

configuration you chose in the unetbootin window, what distribution was
selected etc.
