hi, i am also running into this bug on an upgrade from debian/lenny to squeeze. i can confirm that the hal deamon fails to stop, which is the cause of the error. and the workaround given earlier (killall hald; dpkg --configure --pending) does work for me.
HAL package version: 0.5.13 simply changed my sources.list entries from lenny to squeeze. aptitude update; aptitude safe-upgrade gives me the following error: <snip> Starting Hardware abstraction layer: haldinvoke-rc.d: initscript hal, action "start" failed. dpkg: error al procesar hal (--configure): el subproceso installed post-installation script devolvió el código de salida de error 1 dpkg: problemas de dependencias impiden la configuración de gnome-power-manager: gnome-power-manager depende de hal (>= 0.5.10-1); sin embargo: El paquete `hal' no está configurado todavía. dpkg: error al procesar gnome-power-manager (--configure): problemas de dependencias - se deja sin configurar Se encontraron errores al procesar: hal gnome-power-manager </snip> thanks, kevin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
