I must confess, I didn't read "README.Debian" completely, I only saw an example how to configure my wiki and skipped the rest.

If you want to fix it (only) in the documentation, I'd add a note in section "Example: A single wiki as CGI with Apache 1.3" linking to "Default Python and hardcoded paths". Saying something like: NB: If you use moinmoin for a version of python that differs from the standard version (currently 2.3), please read section "Default Python and hardcoded paths".
