Package: elserv Version: 0.4.0+0.20011203cvs-17 Severity: normal
PROBLEM 1. The xml-rpc library is not developed by the elsev project. This library should be its own package. 2. The elselv installs xml-rpc in Emacs site-lisp directory which conflicts with the existing locally installed version of xml-rpc It is not possible to inhibit elselv to install xml-rpc in order to use the locally installed one. Reordering the Emacs `load-path' is difficult and error prone when multiple xml-rpc installations exist. 3. The xml-rpc shipped with elserv is very old. From Sourceforge CVS http://elserv.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/elserv/ $Id: xml-rpc.el,v 1.2 2001/07/27 10:13:24 teranisi Exp $ AFFECTS Uploading other Emacs packges that depend on xml-rpc is not currently possible. CONFLICTS Utilities that depend on Emacs xml-rpc library are many: http://www.google.com/cse?q=xml-rpc&sa=Search BACKGROUND The xml-rpc is not part of the elselv package. It is "included" from elsewhere. The canonical homepage of xml-rpc is: http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/XmlRpc The project page is: https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/emacsweblogs/ as maintained 2009 by Mark A. Hershberger http://bzr.savannah.gnu.org/lh/emacsweblogs/annotate/head%3A/lisp/xml-rpc.el SOLUTION 1. Create an upload new xml-rpc-el package from canonical source above. 2. For elserv, during debian/rules, refrain from installing included xml-rpc. Install only elserv package files. 3. For elserv, add new package xml-rpc-el to Debian/control::Depends -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_DK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_DK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages elserv depends on: ii emacs22 22.3+1-1.1 The GNU Emacs editor ii flim 1:1.14.9-4 library about internet message for ii ruby 4.2 An interpreter of object-oriented ii xemacs21-mule 21.4.22-2 highly customizable text editor -- elserv recommends no packages.
