when i upgraded, i got a similar errors.
looking at /var/lib/dpkg/info/heartbeat.config
i saw similar lines, with different quote protection :
line 72 : INT=`echo "$ENTRY" | cut -d"|" -f1 | sed -ne 's/^\ *\(.*\)\ *$/\1/p'`
line 90 : INT=`echo "$ENTRY" | cut -d| -f1 | sed -e 's/\ //g'`
may be there are missing quote arround the pipe on the second line ?
-> this could lead to try to execute -f1
