Hello, after installing ttf-dejavu-core, the problem with the ugly font disappears. openjdk-6-jre-headless suggests only ttf-dejavu-core, I think that openjdk-6-jre should "recommend" it (and possibly other font packages for other), as GUIs are pretty much unreadable without it. One could even argue that having a configuration file /etc/java-6-openjdk/fontconfig.properties containing font names without these fonts being installed is an "unusual installation" (as described in the policy). I'm by far not a specialist of this package, but shouldn't all the font suggestions be moved from openjdk-6-jre-headless to openjdk-6-jre (perhaps together with the configuration file, if technically feasible), and transformed into Recommendations? As an alternative, perhaps is there a "required" font package that could be used instead? Anyway, I hope that the solution will help others until the OpenJDK package is somehow fixed.
