A temporal workaround is to replace "AuthInfoRequired user, password" in
printers.conf
by "AuthInfoRequired none".

However this does not resolve the problem because cups regenerates
printers.conf with the former
line from time to time. So you have to manually change it the next time it
regenerates (and you
know that only when THAT printer is not working ANOTHER time and you need to
print right now,
Argh!!). From what I understood by googling about this bug: cups takes this
action due to
applications that do not authenticate properly (from the cups point of view,
that is).

This may be coherent, but I cannot understand why the solution/bug is reversing
the edits of the
configuration file _made_by_root_. You know, "AuthInfoRequired none" has uses.
How about: An
IPP printer backend for your Windows virtual machines that print directly in a
cups raw
printer.

Sorry for the rant. Believe me, this bug is really annoying. It is my bug of
the year 2009. I am
considering paying for getting rid of it, forever.

Possible patches?
