/lib/udev/gpsd.hotplug has

        gpsdcmd = "gpsd %s -F %s" (GPSD_OPTIONS, CONTROL_SOCKET)

at line 38, whereas it should be

        gpsdcmd = "gpsd %s -F %s" % (GPSD_OPTIONS, CONTROL_SOCKET)

This causes python to yeld 'str' object is not callable when the script has
to start gpsd.
Cheers,

Luca
