Yes. I think the original reporter also wanted to display the date in
ISO-8601 format in the message list.

Indeed, you can make things as advanced and complex as you wish, but I
don't think that will improve SquirrelMail. In a future development
version, there will be a config system that allows the admin to define
which options to present to users; then it would be a lot more feasible to
add really advanced options like free-text date formats because they can
then only be turned on by people who are actually going to use that.
