I applied the Ubuntu patch of Cairo to my Debian package (not libxt, nor 
fontconfig, etc…, just the libcairo2) and now it just works as I would expect 
it.

Yes, it does. I think I got it. I will think about it again tommorrow to check 
whether I really understood it ;-).
