Package: wavemon
Severity: wishlist

The latest stable release 0.6.10 has been available for a couple of months now.

In particular, this commit included in this release looks relevant to a problem
I'm having with ath5k in the new 2.6.32 kernel in sid:

commit 459322c8acc21f90196c322a845f5594f20ffb36

Bail out if there are no statistics

The standard wireless statistics handler, iw_handler_get_iwstats() in
net/wireless/wext.c, returns EOPNOTSUPP if no statistics are available.

Instead of returning an error in this case, suppress the display of
statistics, making their absence more clearly noticeable.

With <=2.6.31 kernels, before a connection was established, I could leave
wavemon running and either no statistics would be shown or else stats would be
shown while the connection was being established. This made it convenient to
use wavemon to watch the signal strength while positioning the antenna to
pull in a signal in poor conditions.

But since I upgraded to 2.6.32, wavemon will die with "wavemon: can not obtain
iw statistics: Operation not supported" while trying to establish a connection.
Thus, I can no longer use wavemon to help me position the antenna, rendering
wavemon useless when I need it the most.

Presumably the above commit will fix this problem.

Thanks,
Ben
