I can not reproduce this with....

a) an amd64 host
b) an i386 host
c) a root and a user profile
d) with LC_ALL=C
e) with a fresh new profile
f) with testing, unstable and lenny + backports

Maybe it is a ppc issue, but I didn't had a look in the sourcecode, yet.

You also do not need to do anything before starting apt-dater...

Do you have got an account for me on this machine?
