Are you/we sure that this works? > Did you try it? I resurrected this old bug; it seems that after upgrading to texlive 2009 from unstable (texlive-base 2009-6) the fix got dropped.
Strangely enough, xetex.def now has v0.93 but a *different* one. I guess xetex was forking the code? I've reapplied manually the patch attached to this bug report to the new version and verified that it still works as intended.
