It seems the upstream bug on the Sun bug-tracker ( http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6342561 as stated by Marco d'Itri ) is considered of rather low priority.
I saw however that the bug-tracker has a "voting" feature. Perhaps people hit by the bug and having an account at Sun could try voting for it. Please take note that this is not an encouragement to flood the bug-tracker. I'm just hoping that we can help people at Sun realize that this bug is annoying some of its users and that it's not just some crazy people at Debian asking for a crazy feature.
