I have just noticed you appear to be using Ubuntu. Please report bugs in Ubuntu to Ubuntu. Information about reporting bugs to them can be found on their web site at:

http://www.ubuntulinux.org/support/bugs

In general you should always report bugs to the place where you got software from - people like Linux distributions can and do make noticable modifications to things which can cause problems.

In principle you are right. However, in this case I felt reasonably sure
that the bug could not be caused by the Ubuntu packaging (because there
were no changes except for the rebuild). I therefore
explicitly reported the bug to the debian bts. I expected this to be
helpful because it skipped yet another level between bug reporter and
upstream developer (I know that at least some leafnode developers watch
the debian bts while the ubuntu MOTU team seems to be a little bit
over-worked).

Please excuse me if I was wrong. I just intended the best.

Have you ever read any articles from the groups that Leafnode is not
marking as interesting? Simply checking a group for articles will only refresh interest in a group - if the group was not already marked as interesting then doing this will have no effect. The only things that unconditionally mark a group as interesting are reading an article or listing the the articles in the group.

I think I know what happened then. I've read all the groups before. Then
I didn't start Thunderbird for some time, so leafnode unsubscribed the
groups. When I started Thunderbird again, they groups were not
subscribed because I didn't read any articles (there were none).

Unfortunately the problem is still not solved: Some groups are empty, so
I can't read an article to subscribe to them again.

Is there a specific reason why checking a group doesn't subscribe it?

Best regards,
Nikolaus
