I've just been bitten by this one. I have a stuck devkit-disks-daemon and a stuck instance of gxine (both in state D), and a backtrace showing up in the kernel log. Looks like That Kernel/Drive Locking Bug has been triggered again; this is why I'd disabled optical drive polling when using HAL.
(HW in question is an IDE drive attached to an nForce4 controller. I've not switched to libata for IDE devices.)
