sudo pbuilder --build --debbuildopts "-v1:0.99.18+dfsg.1-11 -us -sa" jed_0.99.19-1~bpo50+2.dsc --distribution lenny --pkgname-logfile should create a log file. But where? It ain't in the directory from where pbuilder was called, it ain't in /var/cache/pbuilder/result, and there ain't no /var/log/pbuilder. Where is the log? Please document this, and add an option to place the log to /var/log/pbuilder right besides the built package.
