Package: gnome-mplayer
Version: 0.9.8-1
Severity: normal

Open gnome-alsamixer. Then open any audio file with gnome-mplayer.
Confirm that you can hear the music. Select "Edit" > "Preferences" to
bring up the Preferences dialog box. Click on the "Close" button to
close the dialog box.

The music stops, even though gnome-mplayer keeps playing the track.
The gnome-alsamixer window shows that the PCM source volume has
dropped to zero. Running alsa-info.sh also confirms that the
volume is zero. You can restore the volume by using gnome-alsamixer
normally.

This can be a deceptive bug for people, because not all mixers show
the PCM source (aumix, for example). It can appear like their sound
system has completely died, and the PCM source volume stays zero after
reboots. That's why I'm classifying it as "normal" even though there
is an easy workaround.

It's also worth noting that the PCM volume control in the gnome-player
window does not reflect the PCM change. Click on it, and the slider
will match the old volume. Once you start moving the slider,
the PCM volume will jump to match the slider.

This is with an Intel onboard soundsystem.
