The link to
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Script_for_configuring_the_CS4239_sound_chip_in_PnP_mode
was useful to me.

The script available here allows to workaround the fact that, out of the
box, alsa is unable to work with the thinkpad 600e (and old workarounds no
longer work with linux 2.6). But is still a dirty hack and does not
integrates within the standard boot process at all.

I understand there are probably not so many thinkpad 600e users, so I
guess this issue is not a top priority. But there still a bug.
